As other products for the framing of decks and porches come online, pressure treated wood is still very popular with home construction, especially for building decks and screened porches. The main benefit of using pressure treated wood is its resistance to rot, decay, and insect damage, making it a durable option for outdoor structures.

As for the current price of pressure treated wood, it can vary depending on location and supplier. However, as of now, (Spring 2024) the cost of a piece of 2 x 10 pressure treated wood is around $15-$20 per board.

Prior to Covid and January 2020, the cost of lumber was relatively stable, with prices varying based on market demand. However, during the time frame of March 2020 to March 2022, the cost of lumber saw a significant increase due to supply chain disruptions, high demand, and other factors. At its peak, the cost of lumber surged to nearly three times its usual price, causing challenges for builders and consumers alike. The market has since reset to pre Covid costs.

Pressure-treated wood is a popular choice for outdoor structures such as decks, fences, and retaining walls due to its durability and resistance to rot, decay, and insect infestation. This type of wood is treated with chemicals that help protect it from the elements and extend its lifespan.

One of the key benefits of pressure-treated wood is its ability to withstand moisture and humidity, making it ideal for outdoor use where exposure to water is common. The treatment process involves impregnating the wood with preservatives under high pressure, ensuring that the chemicals penetrate deep into the wood fibers for maximum protection.

In addition to its resistance to moisture, pressure-treated wood is also known for its strength and stability. It can withstand heavy loads and harsh weather conditions, making it a reliable choice for structural applications. With proper installation and maintenance, pressure-treated wood can last for many years without deteriorating or needing frequent repairs.

Overall, pressure-treated wood is a versatile and long-lasting building material that offers excellent durability and protection against the elements. By choosing pressure-treated wood for your outdoor projects, you can enjoy a sturdy and reliable structure that will stand the test of time.
