Most people choose to build a deck or screen porch so they can entertain guests, eat meals outside, and gather together as a family. Maybe you’re fine with looking for furniture to fit the deck once the structure has been built. However, we believe it’s a good idea to give some thought to the type of furniture you would like to have on your deck and what activities will be hosted on the deck before you build. You don’t want to be constrained by dimensions that, once built, will be unchangeable.

If you’re planning to move within the next five years, adding usable exterior space will increase your enjoyment of your home now while also enhancing resale value later. While it’s impossible to predict what any potential future owner may like or dislike about the deck or screen room, you can confidently build by opting for a simplistic, middle-of-the-road design.

Since there is no structure there now and it’s only your imagination creating the vision of a deck, it’s easy to overlook one very crucial consideration – the environment. It’s important to familiarize yourself with your outdoor surroundings before breaking ground. Why? Two main reasons: sun and bugs.
