Project Overview

This Howard County homeowner wanted a deck, walkway, patio, and pavilion all built at the same time by a single company capable of managing every element from design through construction. Design Builders delivered a seamlessly integrated outdoor living system — connecting the home’s rear entrance all the way down to a full pavilion and outdoor kitchen at the base of the yard, with an Urbana paver walkway tying everything together from the driveway to the pavilion.

Design Challenge

The challenge was integrating four distinct outdoor elements — a multi-level deck, a paver walkway, a covered pavilion with outdoor kitchen, and a full patio — each at a different elevation and with a different material palette, into one cohesive outdoor environment that felt intentional, connected, and easy to navigate.

The Solution

Design Builders used the Urbana paver walkway as the connective spine of the entire project, running from the driveway the full length of the backyard to the pavilion. The multi-level deck was designed with three separate entry and exit points, allowing natural movement between the deck, walkway, and yard. At the base of the yard, the metallic copper roof of the pavilion serves as the visual anchor and destination — giving the full outdoor system a clear hierarchy and a stunning focal point.

Client Testimonials

We had a new composite deck built in the backyard, and it turned out better than we imagined. The project took about ten days, including permits and inspections. They helped design the layout to maximize space, which made a big difference. I liked that they suggested composite instead of wood for lower maintenance. The finish is clean, and everything feels solid. We’ve already had a couple of small gatherings out there, and it’s become our favorite spot. It added both function and value to our home.

We had an excellent experience working with Design Builders on our outdoor living project. From the very first consultation, James took the time to really understand what we wanted and gave us honest advice about design, materials, and layout. His knowledge of decks and screened porches is impressive, and you can tell he has many years of experience in this field. Our new deck and porch have quickly become our favorite place to relax and entertain friends. If you’re looking for a reliable builder in Montgomery County or Northern Virginia who delivers quality work, I highly recommend Design Builders and James.

We had a new screened in porch built by Design Builders two years ago. The design is beautiful, workmanship is superb, materials used were of high quality, project management was well done and everyone was great to work with. Jamie runs a classy shop for luxury screened-in porches. They returned in spring to reseed the yard as they promised. We are very pleased with our porch and recommend Jamie highly.
